While many countries have cuisines in the world, almost every city in our country has its own unique food culture. There are many cities in Turkey known for their rich cuisines, but when breakfast is mentioned, Van comes to mind first.
While the variety of products included in the breakfast changes according to the season, this number can reach up to 30.
It is aimed to increase the awareness of the Van breakfast, which appeals to both the eyes and the stomach, with products such as herbed cheese, murtuğa, kavut, scrambled eggs, tzatziki, milk cream and karakovan honey.
For this purpose, in the city where the record for "the most crowded breakfast table in the world" was broken with the participation of 51,793 people 9 years ago, Van TSO declared the first Sunday of June as World Breakfast Day officially and included it in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List last year. An application was made to the Turkish National Commission.
In the letter sent to Van TSO as a result of the evaluation, it was stated that the request was evaluated by the Cultural Heritage Specialization Committee of the UNESCO Turkish National Commission and that the follow-up of the process by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the executive institution, was approved.
Today, more than 50 Van breakfast tables serve in Van. Van breakfast is served with samovar tea, lavash bread prepared with special methods and baked in stone ovens, and Van pastries. In addition to the samovar tea, goat and sheep milk fed with local grasses are also offered to the guests. Patisserie and restaurant products are never sold in Van breakfast rooms.
