German-based Lyte Aviation announced plans to develop a derivative of its large hybrid electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) vehicle named Skybus for the business, corporate, and private aviation sectors.
The new LA-44 X PRIME is a variant of the 40-seat LA-44 Skybus; weighing 12.5 tons, this aircraft features a hybrid-hydrogen electric propulsion system powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system driving eight propellers attached to tandem-tilted wings, incorporating four conventional turbine engines.
Similar to the Skytruck cargo variant, the new private aviation version will have the same design and dimensions as the LA-44 Skybus, primarily designed as a large air taxi offering high-density services in urban environments.
However, the main difference will be in the interior; it can be customized to accommodate a wider and more luxurious cabin for corporate executives or affluent clients.
Freshta Farzam, Founder and CEO of Lyte Aviation, said, 'In the business, corporate, and private aviation sectors, no one is currently doing what we are doing - carrying 19 passengers, taking off and landing vertically, and offering a true door-to-door experience for luxury clients.'
Farzam stated, 'When you think about this capability in the corporate sector, currently we have large helicopters that are loud, high-cost to operate, and cannot accommodate larger groups. Whereas, we offer the ability to directly pick up and drop off 19 executives with a flexible and sustainable vehicle... We offer what no one else is offering yet.'
Lyte Aviation is in the process of completing digital design work for the LA-44 family, aiming to start full-scale prototype development and flight tests within two years. Certification is expected by the end of the decade.
The company has also experienced increased commercial interest in recent months, including a 10-aircraft pre-order announced by Korean operator Ghenus Air in February, as well as orders from advanced air mobility (AAM) startups Plana Aero and Traverse Aero.
In November, the company announced its first 10 pre-orders from Indian operator Vman Aviation Services.
Farzam noted significant demand for Skybus services in the Asia-Pacific region and other international markets, emphasizing the need for more island-hopping and high-volume urban services than those offered by smaller air taxi platforms.
Farzam said, 'We are in talks with 19 different cities worldwide and expect many more pre-orders in the coming months.'
