Turkish Tourism Sector Expects Record Number of Russian Tourists This Year

The Turkish tourism sector anticipates surpassing last year's recorded figure of 6 million Russian guests this year. Turkey has become a particularly popular holiday destination for Russians, especially since the early 2000s. Russia ranked first among the countries sending the most tourists to Turkey last year, with over 6 million visitors. Turkey stands out for its ease of transportation, thanks to frequent flights operated by companies like Turkish Airlines, continuing to attract the interest of Russia, a significant market for tourism. Tourism sector officials anticipate a good tourism season for Turkey in 2024, with Alanya emerging as a prominent destination.

"Mehmet Dahaoğlu, Vice President of the Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation, also stated that Alanya is a well-known destination, which has become even more prominent after the Russia-Ukraine War.

Dahaoğlu emphasized the importance of safety as a significant factor in tourists' preferences, stating, "We have started to attract more tourists as visitors return to their countries happily and spread positive word of mouth." He added, "Officials we've spoken to believe that 2024 will be Alanya's year."

Highlighting the importance of transportation, Dahaoğlu mentioned that flights have been affected due to sanctions, and they expect solutions that will create more capacity.

Dahaoğlu emphasized that tourism is built on a delicate balance, stating, "One of the main reasons people choose Alanya is because it's a safe haven and a city of peace. In fact, every part of Turkey is successful in this regard. We're actually doing this job better than many other countries in terms of destination, price balance, and quality.

Mehmet Dahaoğlu stated that the Russia-Ukraine War has adversely affected consumer budgets, leading tourism operators in Turkey to raise prices without compromising on quality. Despite these challenges, Dahaoğlu emphasized that Turkey continues to be an affordable holiday destination, saying, "I believe we will exceed the figure of 6 million especially for Russians this year. As long as there are no disruptions to flights."

"Love of Russian tourists for Turkey"

Veronika, a Russian visitor to the fair, mentioned that she frequently visits Turkey and loves it very much.

Veronika pointed out that Turkey is currently one of the easiest countries to visit, especially due to the ease of transportation, saying, "I love Turkey especially because of the ease of transportation, we can hop on a plane and go in a short time. The sea is also very beautiful."

Veronika expressed her desire to visit Turkey again soon, stating, "Even though I have visited many times, I have never been to Istanbul. I want to see Istanbul, especially for its history. Visiting Cappadocia is also among my future plans."

Rus Vlada also expressed that Turkey is a very beautiful country. Saying, "Turkey is undoubtedly a beautiful country, you can have a holiday according to everyone's taste." Vlada also mentioned that she really likes Turkish cuisine.

Vlada expressed her desire to visit Turkey again this year, saying, "Turkey is a holiday destination that appeals to everyone. You can choose to visit historical sites for a historical vacation or opt for a beach vacation on Turkey's southern coast.
