Tourism Professionals: The Eid al-Adha Holiday Should Be 9 Days

In Antalya, tourism professionals are requesting that, similar to the practice during Ramadan, the days between the weekends and the Eid al-Adha holiday be combined to create a 9-day holiday. They stated, "If it is announced as a 9-day holiday by the beginning of June, it will further boost domestic tourism activity."

Tourism Professionals: The Eid al-Adha Holiday Should Be 9 Days

This year, Eid al-Adha will start on June 15 with Arafah Day and continue through June 16-19. With schools closing on June 14, millions of people are expected to go on holiday. The Turkish tourism sector, anticipating a decrease in the number of tourists from Germany due to the start of the European Football Championship on June 14, aims to fill this gap with the holiday. While early booking discounts are being offered to make holiday opportunities more attractive, industry representatives have called on the government to declare a 9-day holiday.

Kaan Kaşif Kavaloğlu, President of AKTOB, reminded that this year they started the tourism season with three holidays: Nevruz, Easter, and Eid al-Fitr. He stated, "The high season begins in June. We will also start the high season with the closure of schools and Eid al-Adha. Just like Eid al-Fitr, due to the closure of schools, we request from our government to declare the Eid al-Adha holiday from June 15 to June 23, with the official holiday on June 20-21, Thursday and Friday. We expect a 9-day holiday. If it is announced as a 9-day holiday by the beginning of June, it will further boost domestic tourism activity."
