Tourism from Russia to Turkey has decreased by 40%

The Russian Association of Tour Operators (ATOR) announced that the number of tourists coming to Turkey from Russia this year is 40 percent less than in 2019. According to ATOR, one of the reasons for this decline is price increases.

ATOR announced that 2.6 million Russian citizens visited Turkey in the first half of the year. However, this number is lower than in previous years.

Artur Petrov's family was planning to go to Antalya for summer vacation this year, as they do every year, but they state that they had to change this plan.

"We were going to Turkey, but now it's too expensive"

Artur Petrov, who works as a trade representative in a furniture company, said, "We used to go to Turkey in the previous years, but now it is very expensive. We hope that the number of tourists will decrease and tour prices will decrease by September. Now we are resting in Moscow. There are all kinds of conditions and possibilities here. Maybe later we'll go to the southern regions. But they say it's full there too"

According to tourism operators, the average price per person for a 10-night trip to Turkey in the summer of 2019 was around 50-60 thousand rubles. This year, under the same conditions, the price has almost doubled, reaching 100-115 thousand rubles.

According to ATOR, the number of tourists coming to Turkey from Russia this year decreased by 40 percent compared to 2019. This year, the majority of Russian citizens are turning to domestic tourism.

University student Anastasiya Melnikova said, "We are from the Kursk region. We decided to come to Moscow for a vacation for the first time this year. Moscow is our capital. I think every citizen should visit the wonderful places here and see this beauty of Moscow. That's why we decided to rest here this summer"

"I don't go abroad"

Marketing specialist Alisa Seleznyova also stated that traveling abroad has become very difficult.

Seleznyova said, "I haven't been abroad for several years. Travels are very expensive. I vacation in cities in Russia. Last year we were in Sochi. The following year they were in Anapa. This year Moscow has a very nice climate. Here you have the opportunity to travel. Maybe later I will visit Saint Petersburg, but I will not go to other countries”
According to the data of the Russian Association of Tour Operators, 7 million tourists went to Turkey from Russia in 2019. In 2022, this number fell to 5.2 million people. This year, this rate is not expected to reach the figures in pre-pandemic years.
