The Touristic Salt Express is setting off

Domestic and international tourists wishing to visit Çankırı will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique day trip on the Touristic Salt Express, which is set to launch. Departing from Ankara, the Touristic Salt Express journeys, organized on weekends, will offer a brand-new experience for those who love day trips by train. The "Touristic Salt Express" continues the tradition of the "Tenezzüh (Excursion) Train" trips carried out in Çankırı 90 years ago, taking passengers from the past to the future. The train trips, organized in collaboration with the Çankırı Governorship, Çankırı Municipality, and the North Anatolian Development Agency (KUZKA), aim to increase tourism activity in the region.

The Touristic Salt Express’s inaugural trip will commence at 07:50 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from Ankara Station. After an enjoyable journey, passengers will be transported back in time with Çankırı’s historic streets, mesmerizing underground salt city, boutique museums, and local flavors. The tourist train, with a capacity of approximately 250 passengers, will return to Ankara at 19:40 the same day after completing its program in Çankırı.

Visitors to Çankırı on this tour will have the opportunity to visit the Underground Salt City, used since the Hittite era and part of Turkey's industrial heritage. Important historical landmarks in Çankırı, such as the Stone Mosque and Çankırı Mevlevi Lodge—birthplaces of symbols of medicine and pharmacy, Buğday Pazarı Madrasah, Çivitçioğlu Madrasah, Sultan Süleyman Mosque (Grand Mosque), and the historic Çankırı streets, will offer a journey through time. Visitors exploring the Ferit Akalın Radio and Communication Museum will delve into the history of communication, and the Çankırı Museum, hosting 8 million-year-old fossils, and the Historical Laundry Museum, displaying the culture of communal cooperation, are among the tour's intriguing sites. After the nostalgic tour, visitors will also get to experience Çankırı’s geographically marked traditional flavors at the Local Cuisine and Culture House, taking a step back in time. The Touristic Salt Express tours, scheduled for day trips on May 18, May 25, June 1, and June 8, can be booked through travel agencies.

KUZKA will provide support for train tourism tours The North Anatolian Development Agency (KUZKA), under its 2024 Western Black Sea Discover Alternative Support Program, will provide support to TÜRSAB-affiliated Group A travel agencies organizing tour programs for the Touristic Salt Express. Agencies interested in these supports can submit their project proposals to KUZKA for tours organized between April 15 and November 30. The deadline for applications is Thursday, October 31, at 23:59.

"Çankırı will become one of Ankara’s day-trip tourism centers"

Highlighting the importance of the Touristic Salt Express for Çankırı, Governor Mustafa Fırat Taşolar stated, “We have started our promotion efforts through print and visual media as well as social media. With trains that have a capacity of 250 people, we plan to bring a total of 1,000 people to our city in 4 trips. Once we successfully complete these 4 trips, Çankırı will become one of Ankara’s day-trip tourism centers in future periods. I believe this will also provide additional value to Çankırı in terms of tourism. We are making our plans accordingly.”
