Hotels in Alanya remained empty, fear spread

The summer season has arrived, but the dreams of tourism operators for the 2024 season have been dashed. The hope that this year would be a peak for tourism has not materialized, as facilities preparing for the season have not met expectations. Due to rising costs, which have made prices high for tourists, and the growing popularity of rental apartments, hotel occupancy rates have been significantly negatively affected. Ali Orkan, President of the Konaklı Tourist Operators Association, stated that occupancy rates in the city range between 40% and 80%.

“Even foreign guests find our hotels expensive,” Orkan said, adding that the demand for rental homes is at a notable level due to this price sensitivity. "Currently, hotel occupancy in Alanya varies between 50% and 80% depending on the region. Unfortunately, in some areas, it's around 40%. We hope this rate will increase by June. Besides, the number of guests turning to rental homes is significant. Of course, the only reason for low occupancy is not rental homes. Overall, due to high costs, even foreign guests find our city and country expensive, leading to a drop in reservations. Our hope is June," he added.
