Bakan Ersoy visits Tulumtaş Cave, dating back 5 million years

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated, "The cave is a very valuable area both archaeologically and as a natural site."

Ersoy visited the Tulumtaş Cave, which was discovered during excavation works for the construction of the Ankara Ring Road in the Gölbaşı district of Ankara. He noted that the Tulumtaş Cave dates back 5 million years, with its development accelerating over the past 1 million years, leading to the formation of stalactites and stalagmites, and eventually columns through fusion. Ersoy mentioned that the cave was discovered by chance during the construction of the Ankara Ring Road, later designated as a first-degree natural site by the Cultural and Natural Heritage Conservation Board, and subsequently developed for tourism, particularly through the efforts of the Gölbaşı Municipality.

Ersoy pointed out the presence of mounds in the area surrounding the cave, with Tulumtaş Mound being particularly significant, containing settlement layers from the Middle Bronze Age, Hellenistic, Roman, and Eastern Roman periods. He emphasized the importance of the area both archaeologically and as a natural site.

Ersoy mentioned that visitors to the Tulumtaş Cave can easily access historical information through a projection screen installed in the cave. He stated that a total of 206 meters of walking path has been constructed, providing visitors with a pleasant environment for exploration. Ersoy also thanked Gölbaşı Mayor Ramazan Şimşek for his contributions to the cave's development and the ongoing efforts.

Mayor Ramazan Şimşek of Gölbaşı Municipality also participated in the visit to the cave.
