Istanbul Airport became the busiest airport in Europe
The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) has published its Air Traffic Operations for the dates of 26 April-2 May.
Accordingly, Istanbul Airport, operated by IGA, ranked first among the busiest airports in Europe with an average of 1446 daily flights during the said period.
Istanbul Airport was followed by Amsterdam with 1314 daily flights, London Heathrow with 1272 flights, Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 1245 flights and Frankfurt with 1194 flights.
While 28,204 flights were carried out daily across Europe, this figure corresponded to 92 percent of the 2019 level before the Covid-19 outbreak.
Istanbul Airport and Palma de Mallorca Airport, which serves Majorca, the largest island of Spain, were the two airports that passed the 2019 levels among the top 10 in 2023.
Istanbul Airport ranked first again by increasing the number of daily flights by 21 percent compared to 2019 and 24 percent compared to 2022.
On the other hand, Turkish Airlines ranked third among the airlines with the most flights in Europe with 1521 daily flights.
