'Bahçelievler Neolithic Excavations' sheds light on 9,000 years ago

Bilecik Culture and Tourism Director Serkan Bircan explained that the 'Bahçelievler Neolithic Excavations' shed light on approximately 9 thousand years from today and said, "It is possible to find traces of 16,500 years ago in the İnhisar Gedikkaya İn Cave." Provincial Director Bircan published a message for the Museums Week, which has been celebrated between 18-24 May every year since 1982. In his message, Bircan said, "May 18, which was accepted as the International Museums Day in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), was declared the Day of Museums all over the world by UNESCO. Museums Week, which we have been celebrating in our country between 18-24 May since 1982, has an important place in terms of protecting our historical identity and cultural heritage and promoting museology. Museums are important architectural places where works of art, science, history and culture are exhibited. We learn about the past, people's thinking, belief, life and artistic understanding from the works they left us. In this sense, museums are the memory of civilization, the focus of respect for the past and labor, and a time tunnel that sheds light on the future. They are the places that present to people by classifying the works formed in cultural and technical fields from the earliest periods of history to the present day. We, too, will continue to work tirelessly to pass on these values, which we inherited from our ancestors in Bilecik, the heirloom of our ancestors, with the motto 'Those who do not know their past cannot direct the future', which is also honored by the words of the spiritual founder of the Ottoman State, Sheikh Edebali, who is buried in our city." Bircan continued his statement, "The museums not only exhibit the cultural assets of the past, but also exhibit the art and intelligence products of the recent past in ethnography, science, nature and folklore museums." When we look at the past history of Bilecik, the city of civilizations, which has hosted many civilizations, it has been registered as the oldest settlement in Western Anatolia in the recent excavations in our province, and shed light on approximately 9 thousand years from today with the 'Bahçelievler Neolithic Excavations'. In addition, it is possible to find traces of 16,500 years ago in the İnhisar Gedikkaya İn Cave. Our museums, which bring together all the beauties of our country, which has a rich history in such a beautiful geography, are waiting for our visitors. With these feelings and thoughts, we celebrate our Museum Week and invite everyone to our museums."
