The performance of Istanbul's airports in the first quarter has been revealed

In the first quarter of the year, 27.1 million passengers flew from airports in Istanbul. Despite a decrease in air traffic worldwide during the pandemic, there has been a significant increase in flight and passenger numbers since 2023, continuing into the first quarter of 2024.

In the first quarter of the year, 27.1 million passengers flew from airports in Istanbul. The number of passengers using Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen airports increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, reaching 27,104,054 passengers in the first quarter of the year. A total of 120,148 flights were operated.

According to information on the State Airports Authority (DHMI) General Directorate's website, the rise in air traffic and passenger density observed in 2023 has continued in the first quarter of this year, despite the significant decrease in air traffic and passenger density globally and in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was determined that the number of passengers hosted at Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen airports increased compared to the same period in 2023.

The increases in passenger numbers have also had a positive impact on the financial performance of airlines. With the arrival of the tourism season, further increases are expected in the coming months.

Istanbul Airport hosted a total of 17,671,971 passengers in the first three months of this year. During the January-March period, 3,558,813 passengers traveled on domestic flights, while 14,113,158 passengers traveled on international flights from this airport.

In the same period last year, 16,237,909 people traveled through Istanbul Airport. This year, it was calculated that the number of passengers increased by 1,434,062, a 9% increase.

A 22% increase was observed at Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

A total of 9,432,083 passengers flew from Sabiha Gökçen Airport in the January-March period, with 4,294,968 passengers on domestic flights and 5,137,115 passengers on international flights.

In the first quarter of 2023, a total of 7,728,044 passengers arrived and departed from the airport. In the same period this year, the number increased by 1,704,039, a 22% increase.

A total of 27,104,054 passengers were served at Istanbul's two airports in the first quarter of this year. In the same period last year, the total number of passengers was 23,965,953.

Compared to last year, the number of passengers at Istanbul's airports increased by 3,138,101, a 13% increase.

There was also a noticeable increase in the number of flights operated parallel to the passenger numbers. At Istanbul Airport, a total of 120,148 flights were operated in the January-March period, with 26,435 domestic and 93,713 international flights.

Last year, a total of 113,840 flights were operated from this airport in the first three months. During this period, the number of flights increased by 6,308, a 6% increase.
