After being used as a museum for many years, a part of the Kariye Mosque, which was reopened for worship on May 6, will transition to a visitor management plan as of August 19. The mosque, where 'worship' and 'visitation' areas were previously separated, will be open only for worship to local and foreign visitors on Fridays.
'A ticket fee of 20 euros per person will be charged for tourist visits' On days other than Friday, the historic mosque will be open for both visits and worship. However, on these six days, a ticket fee of 20 euros per person will be required for tourist visits to the Kariye Mosque.
It will be determined after an announcement by officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism whether Turkish citizens and Muslims living in foreign countries who want to worship in the Kariye Mosque on days other than Fridays will need to pay a ticket fee and when they will be able to enter the mosque.
