Bodrum Castle was visited by 324,000 people last year.

The number of visitors to Bodrum Castle, where the Underwater Archeology Museum is located, doubled in 2022 compared to the previous year, and reached 324,000.

Bodrum Castle was visited by 324,000 people last year.

Bodrum Castle, which has become the symbol of Bodrum and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 2016, welcomes thousands of local and foreign tourists every year. It is also known as "the castle of the Knights of St. Jean", there are many towers in the castle.

In the Underwater Archeology Museum, where rare works such as Uluburun Shipwreck, Sparrow Harbor Glass Shipwreck, Eastern Roman Ship, Nefertiti's Golden Scarab Seal, Golden Goblet and Bronze Marble Eyes are exhibited, the Coin and Jewelery Hall and the Carian Princess Hall are frequently visited by tourists.

Hande Savaş,who is  Deputy Director of Bodrum Castle Underwater Archeology Museum, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the castle attracts great attention from local and foreign visitors every year in summer and winter.

Savaş stated that visitors also have the opportunity to see shipwrecks, She said, "There are very rare foundlings in our castle. Since we are an underwater museum, our visitors are very interested in these areas. All our exhibition halls have been renovated thanks to the restoration work which is carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism." 

She expressed that the existing shipwreck halls were updated and developed, the pieces which hadn't been  found before were found by the museum's experts, were opened to visitors in the new exhibition halls, and continued as follows:

We get very good reactions from visitors visiting our renovated castle. It's very much appreciated. We are very happy for that too. We also carry out land excavations that are important for the history of the Bodrum Peninsula. One of them is the Carian Princess Exhibition Hall. This hall is also of  very popular. We have very special shipwreck exhibitions such as Uluburun Shipwreck and Serçe Harbor Glass Shipwreck. It is among our very popular salons. We also obtain special finds in the sounding excavations carried out by our museum experts throughout the Bodrum Peninsula. We bring these together with our visitors in our newly opened exhibition halls.""Our halls attract attention and arouse curiosity"

Savaş stated that 2022 was a good year in terms of the number of visitors and said:

"With the elimination of epidemic measures in 2022 and the opening of the renovated halls to visitors, we doubled the number of visitors. The museum hosted 324,000 visitors in 2022. We attracted great interest from both domestic and foreign tourists. Our newly opened halls draw attention and arouse curiosity. Bodrum "The castle itself is a special structure, a monument and the symbol of Bodrum. The museum inside the castle is the only underwater museum in our country. It is one of the most important underwater archeology museums in the world. It is an area that attracts a lot of attention."
