The historical city of Mit Rahina, which is located approximately 17 kilometers away from the world-famous pyramids of Giza in Egypt, is the first city to combine the north and south of ancient Egypt.
The city, which is almost an open-air museum nowadays, is visited by hundreds of thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.
The hitakesstorical city which its visitors back thousands of years, was built in 3200 BC by King Narmer, a member of the First Pharaonic Dynasty.
The ancient city was abandoned in 641 BC after being used as a settlement for many years.
Mit Rahina was the first capital of ancient Egypt.
In the period of monotheism that began during the reign of King Narmer, the north and south of the country united and became a single state. In this period, Mit Rahina was the capital of the country for about 1000 years.
In the historical region, which was used as a settlement and capital for decades, there is a sphinx statue similar to Pharaoh Ramses II and the Great Sphinx of Giza, as well as various statues from the Pharaoh dynasty.
Mit Rahina was abandoned by its inhabitants after being used as a settlement for 2,559 years. Some statues and papyrus that belonged to the Pharaonic dynasties of that period have survived from the historical region. In the last century, the region has been looted by historical artifact smugglers.

Merna Hasan,who is one of the visitors of the ancient city, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the most striking thing here is the sphinx statue.
Hasan said, "We thought the sphinx statue was only in the pyramids of Giza. It turns out that there is a similar one here. I couldn't take my eyes off it for a while because of the amazement I had from the first time I saw the statue."
Abdullah Mahmud, said that he visited the region for the first time, and stated that he did not have detailed information about the region before.
Mahmud explained that there are a lot of rumors among the people about the region, and he said, "I have heard many stories about the incident where the women who saw Prophet Yusuf were surprised by cutting their hands because of his beuty. However, after coming here and seeing it with my own eyes, I came to the conclusion that the rumors in question were just a delusion. "
