The application made by Biga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Biga TSO) in February 2022 was accepted after a long evaluation process and Biga Cheese Dessert Geographical Mark was registered. Thus, the name "Biga Cheese Dessert", the place of production and the method of production were taken under protection.
Biga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman of the Board Şadan Doğan expressed his satisfaction with the geographical indication registration of Biga Cheese Dessert, and said, “Registering the Biga Cheese Dessert has a great importance for the branding and protection of our cheese dessert, which is one of the most important gastronomic and economic values of our district.
Geographical indication registration will ensure that this flavor is preserved forever, and Biga Cheese Dessert will spread more easily in national and international markets, and it will increase the profits of our producers. With the registration of Biga Cheese Dessert by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, we believe that this product, which has become almost identical in our region, and will become a strong brand on a national scale.
With all these works carried out by us, our goal is to protect, promote and brand the values of our city Biga. In addition to protecting the product, Geographical Indications add dynamic marketing power to the product, increase agricultural diversity and contribute to rural development.
Thus, traditional products are delivered to the next generations in accordance with their originality. The sustainability of the products is also ensured without losing their qualities. In addition, Geographical Indication is of great importance in terms of protecting these products against imitations and preventing them from facing unfair competition.
When companies that produce products with "Geographical Indication" sign on the package, they express trust and quality for the consumer. Considering all these benefits, special attention should be paid to the registration of products in order to protect the local values both in our country and in our city.
In the next period, we will increase our cooperation with our manufacturers in order to benefit from the advantages of geographical indication registration and to improve our brand value.
